During the year 1888 Jack the Ripper began his notorious killing spree. Five victims were barbarically mutilated but the Ripper was never caught. Along with these five victims were another nine whose butchered remains bared all the hallmarks of the Ripper's renowned brutality. As the killings in London subsided they began again across the Atlantic in 1901 in New York. Had the Ripper escaped and taken his evil to America? A further twelve women where slaughtered. Legend says that the spirits of the victims walk the earth together in limbo, not resting until the identity of their killer is revealed. So strong is their bond that they can not be separated, tortured spirits forever waiting in the world between ours and the afterlife.
The Effect You hold the Ripper deck. 25 old stained photographs of women bound with a ribbon that once belonged to one of his poor victims. The ribbon is removed and the photos are shuffled. From the deck you remove 5 photographs, those that show Jack the Ripper's known victims. These are placed in a pile. Another photo is removed, one that shows a woman who never had the unfortunate experience of meeting Jack the Ripper. This is placed next to the pile of victims. You hand the remaining photographs to a spectator. You ask them to look at each photo in turn and decide whether that person was a Ripper victim or not and to put the photo in the corresponding pile. The spectator then places each photo in a completely random order until none are left. You pick up the first pile, the pile of women who were not victims, turn them over and fan them out on the table top. You then pick up the pile of victims and again turn them over and fan them out on the table top. To the spectator's horror, every single victim photo is blood stained and they are all together in one pile!
